The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has led the University Management on a courtesy visit to the First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop (Dr.) Mrs Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, in appreciation of her support for the University and her role in facilitating the recent historic visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, to the institution.
The visit, which was held in appreciation of the First Lady’s support and goodwill towards the University, also provided an opportunity for the Vice Chancellor and the Management team to strengthen the cordial relationship between UNICROSS and the Cross River State Government.
The visit of the First Lady of Nigeria to UNICROSS for the commissioning of the TETFund ICT Experience Centre at the Calabar Campus marked a historic milestone in the history of the University and further enhanced the institution’s visibility.
Prof. Bassey expressed appreciation to Bishop (Dr.) Otu for her support for the University and the administration, particularly her contribution towards the successful visit of the First Lady of Nigeria.
During the visit, the Vice Chancellor presented gift items, largely artworks produced by students of the Department of Visual Arts and Technology, to the Cross River State First Lady.
Responding, Bishop (Dr.) Otu thanked the Vice Chancellor and the University community for the courtesy visit and expressed appreciation for the gifts presented to her.
She recalled that before the appointment of Prof. Bassey as Vice Chancellor, she visited the University for a function but was not impressed with what she saw and did not feel proud of her alma mater.
She commended Prof. Bassey for the remarkable improvements recorded at the University under her leadership, noting that she was impressed by the progress being made at UNICROSS.
She encouraged the University Management to sustain its teamwork and developmental efforts.
The First Lady, a proud alumna of the institution’s predecessor, The Polytechnic Calabar, expressed her continued commitment to supporting UNICROSS and welcomed the Vice Chancellor and her team on behalf of the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu.
The courtesy visit underscores the growing relationship between UNICROSS and key stakeholders in Cross River State and reflects the University Management’s commitment to building partnerships that support the institution’s development and advancement.
Prof. Bassey was accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella Maris-Okey; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Thomas Ojikpong; Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Catherine Osai; University Librarian, Dr. Victoria Iyishu; Prof. Ajibade Babson of the Department of Visual Arts and Technology and immediate past Director of Academic Planning; Mrs. Emekpe Omong, Acting Head of Department of Visual Arts and Technology; among other principal officers of the University.
