As part of ongoing efforts to resolve the industrial dispute at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, held a closed-door meeting with the University's management and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Governor's Office in Calabar.

The UNICROSS delegation was led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey. It comprised members of the University's management, the Zonal Coordinator of ASUU Calabar Zone, Dr. Ikechukwu Igwenyi; the Chairperson of the UNICROSS Branch of ASUU, Dr. Patrick Ushie; and other officials of ASUU.

The meeting forms part of the Cross River State Government's sustained engagement with critical stakeholders to address the concerns raised by the union and facilitate the restoration of normal academic activities at the institution.

The latest engagement comes just a day after Governor Otu met separately with a delegation of student leaders and the management of UNICROSS, further demonstrating his administration's commitment and the university management's resolve to inclusive dialogue and broad-based consultation in finding a lasting solution to the issues that culminated in the ongoing strike.

As the discussions were held behind closed doors, the accompanying photographs provide a glimpse into the high-level engagement, while the details and outcomes of the meeting are expected to emerge in due course.
