UNICROSS Holds Historic Senate Meeting as VC Announces Appointment of DVCs

The Senate of University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has held a hybrid meeting for the first time in the history of the University. The meeting held Thursday and afforded members from Ogoja and Okuku campuses the opportunity to actively participate online through Skype.

The Vice Chancellor stated that this development is necessary because "we need to protect our colleagues from the stressful and risky to and fro trips".
This development is also in partial fulfillment of the Vice Chancellor's desire to save revenue and minimize what the University spends on transportation and accommodation of Senate members who usually travel from Ogoja and Okuku campuses to attend Senate meetings in Calabar campus.
In addition, this development is in line with the Vice Chancellor's desire to fully transform whatever may have been analogue in UNICROSS to a digitalized era and a new dawn.

The meeting was the 120th regular meeting of the University's Senate.
It was the first meeting of the Senate after Prof. Francisca Bassey got confirmed as the substantive Vice Chancellor. She got confirmed one week ago by the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, the People's First Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

In a related similar historic development, the Senate of University of Cross River State yesterday gave approval for the establishment of the Faculty of Computing. The Faculty will begin with the already existing Department of Computer Science, Department of Software Engineering and Department of Information Technology. All these Departments were previously in the Faculty of Physical Sciences.
Their separation from that Faculty is in line with the expectations of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

In yesterday's meeting also, the Vice Chancellor announced the appointment of Deputy Vice Chancellors (DVCs) of the University.
She announced that Prof. Thomas Ojikpong is now the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) while Prof. Stella Maris-Okey is now the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic).

Before this development,
Prof. Thomas Ojikpong was Director of Administration of UNICROSS and the Senate's representative to the Governing Council while Prof. Stella Maris-Okey was Director of the University's Career Service Centre.
Their appointment take immediate effect.

Following this development, the Vice Chancellor announced that Prof. Ndifon Ejoh will now replace Prof. Thomas Ojikpong as the Senate's representative to the University's Governing Council.
Prof. Ndifon is the current Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences and Head of Ogoja campus of UNICROSS. He is scheduled to hand over to a new Dean and Head of that campus as soon as possible.

We congratulate the University's Senate and Prof. Francisca Bassey for these historic developments.
